Like many TV shows, Bates Motel got better as the series went on. The majority of the worst-rated episodes come from Season 1, starting with the second episode in the series called “Nice Town You Picked, Norma” This episode introduces Norman’s half-brother/cousin named Dylan. Dylan shows up needing a place to stay, which Norma. Bates Motel has this glorious, infuriating way of letting me get through an entire episode thinking I’m going to shape my recap around one central idea, and then in the last minute — sometimes.

But Norman is more interested in discovering who might want him dead. He can be a little dense.
